The Story

Denim has always been a favorite at Mixed. It’s familiar, polished, and grounded — the kind of material that naturally finds its way into everyday life.

For this collection, I wanted to take something classic and introduce our Mixed touch. The result is our Printed Denim Drop, featuring a subtle sakura floral printed onto a medium-wash denim alongside pieces cut from a deep indigo 14 oz twill denim. The idea was to create a collection that feels effortless and everyday, but still unmistakably Mixed.

  • The Print

The starting point was the print. Inspired by my Japanese roots, I wanted to design a delicate cherry blossom motif that revealed itself slowly as you look closer, rather than the typical overt floral. The blossoms are printed tone-on-tone onto the denim, creating a soft texture that blends into the fabric rather than sitting loudly on top of it. The effect is subtle but intentional—a signature Mixed detail.

    The Denim

We worked with two different denim bases to create contrast within the collection.

The printed pieces use a medium-wash stretch denim, chosen specifically because it allows the sakura pattern to show through with a soft, washed-in effect. The stretch also gives the garments an easy, comfortable feel that’s perfect for everyday wear.

Alongside it, we introduced a heavyweight 14 oz twill denim in a deep indigo wash. This fabric has more structure and weight, with no stretch, giving certain silhouettes a stronger shape and presence.

Together, the two denims create a balance: softness and structure, ease and polish.

  • Designing for Pre-Spring

This collection was designed with pre-spring in mind—that transitional moment when winter is beginning to lift but spring hasn’t fully arrived yet. Denim is perfect for that in-between season. It has enough weight to provide structure and warmth, but still feels fresh and easy to wear as the weather begins to shift.

The silhouettes lean into versatility: jumpsuits, dresses, and pieces that can be layered now and worn effortlessly later.

  • Everyday Statement-wear

One of the things I think about often when designing is how a piece fits into your real life.

Denim is already part of most wardrobes. It’s reliable. It’s easy. It’s something people reach for without thinking. With this collection, the goal was to take that everyday foundation and add just enough personality to make it feel special.

The kind of piece you can wear to work, out to dinner, or on a weekend walk — but that still feels like a statement.
